Universities and companies: the link between offer and demand, between needs and solutions
Universia acts as a link to connect companies, institutions and university students. It supplies tools, spaces and projects which help companies and institutions to present valuable products and services for the university collective. This activity takes place within three areas of activity: Jobs, Training, and Publicity and Marketing.
University students’ access to the job market is one of Universia’s commitments towards the Latin-American university community. Through the creation of Universia Empleo in 2005, and the alliance with Trabajando.com in 2008, 267,170 jobs have been managed between January and October 2011 and over 1 million since it was created.
Customised portals in the universities and in companies allow candidates’ information and companies’ job offers to be integrated, thus enabling the best candidates from Latin American universities to be filtered and be selected.
Furthermore, Universia’s work experience management area enables companies to know and train the candidate before formally arranging a work contract, and university students to acquire the experience needed to start their professional career.
Throughout 2011, over 7 million CVs have been updated in the portals’ databases, and 99,765 companies have published job offers.
- Consulting selection of work experience opportunities and first job: Registration of CVs; selection process: interview and skills; reports and sending of candidatures; administrative management: handling collective agreements; monitoring candidate; exit interview and welcome plan.
- Talent-hunting programmes: Detecting potential; complete selection process; sending job applications; development and training within the company; international mobility.
- HR Observatory: Online channel geared towards human resources professionals; University – company face-to-face meetings.

Life-long curricular training, with the purpose of increasing and adapting professionals’ knowledge and skills in their jobs. It is a service offered to companies by Universia, and which has value-added for the university community overall. Universia links organisations, companies and universities, coordinating tailor-made training programmes for professionals working in companies and in public administration. It also offers training for executives of the partner universities in association with international bodies and institutions.
The academic guarantee of the higher education institutions which are responsible for the training, quality and specialisation of the training programme, with a special focus on the final customer, and the excellent response times, make this type of training especially valuable.
Since 2008, Universia has coordinated 1,958 training courses which have received 44,338 professionals from companies and public institutions. They have been taught by 542 teachers associated with the universities, consultancy or companies.
Miríada X, a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform, is launching its activity by offering free training through MOOCs taught by 18 Ibero-American universities. This project is a joint initiative developed by Telefónica -through Telefónica Learning Services- and Universia –the largest network of Spanish and Portuguese speaking universities, and promoted by Banco Santander through its Santander Universities Global Division-, with the collaboration of Fundación CSEV.
